Verdin A. Goodrich, age 79 of Vernal, Utah passed away at the Uintah Care Center on November 5, 2011.

He was born in Vernal on August 26, 1932 to Delroy and Hazel Anderson Goodrich. He attended school at Naples Elementary and Uintah High School.

On April 3, 1951, he married his sweetheart, La Rae 'Peggy' Chivers Goodrich in Vernal. Their marriage was solemnized a year later in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on April 8, 1952. They had 5 Children Together.

Verdin lived in many places including Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. He was employed by the Co-op, Bureau of Reclamation, and he retired from Chevron Oil- Redwash Field. He served on the Board for Western Park, the Ashley Water Board and the Uintah Care Center Board of Directors. He also served many callings in the LDS Church including the president of the Young Men's Association, a six year mission at Uintah Care Center, and he served in the Bishopric for 11 years.

Verdin enjoyed hunting, fishing, volleyball, softball, and playing music. He played and sang at many events including funerals, and plays. He was a talented saxophone player in the marching band and a dance band. Verdin's biggest loves were his family, friends, and farming.

Verdin is survived by his wife; Peggy, children; Debra (Ken) Hopes, Craig (Lana) Goodrich, Kenneth (Diana) Goodrich, and Lori Ann (Danny) Widner, sister; Ila Faye Horrocks, grandsons; Zachary Hopes, Royce Kimbal, and Roe McDonald, granddaughters; Larrisa, Andee, and Jessie Goodrich, Shelly Taylor, and Jodi McDonald, great-granddaughter; Kiersie Hopes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Alton and Clive, and Baby Son Ricky.

Services for Verdin were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Naples Ward LDS Chapel. Viewings were held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, and 1 hour prior to services at the chapel.

Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction and care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
