Paul Donald Bergman, 81, of Arthur, died Sunday 30 November 1997 at his residence in rural Arthur, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday 2 December 1997 at the Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa with Reverend Robert Lundberg officiating. Burial followed in Hayes Township Cemetery of rural Arthur, Iowa. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove was in charge of arrangements.

Donald was born 23 April 1916 in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa. He was the son of Nels and Ida (Anderson) Bergman. He attended Hayes Township county School, and was married to Alma Grace Devine on 1 October 1940 in San Antonio, Texas. Donald farmed in Ida County all his life except during World War II when he worked at Douglas Aircraft in California. He was baptized in the Arthur Baptist Church and later became a member of the Arthur Evangelical Free Church. He was a member of the Ida County Historical Society and was President of the Hayes Township Cemetery Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma; one brother, Floyd Bergman; and one sister, Isabell Meltesen.

Survivors include his children and their spouses; LaDonna and Sterling Nelson of Des Moines: Ronald Bergman of Elva Beach, Hawaii; Barry and Susan Bergman of Arthur; Karen and Charles Ellcey of Balch Springs, Texas; and Lori and Dan Thompson of Mesquite, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ione Seaberg of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Elsie Lewis of Vista, California; his twin, Doris Donaldson of Vista, California; and two brothers, Carl Bergman of Desert Hot Springs, California and Gene Bergman of Kiron.
