R. E. Montgomery, 97, father of J. P. Montgomery, and grandfather of Ellis Montgomery, died Sunday at his home in Lawton. Services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baggerley chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.
A native of Pontotoc county, Miss., Montgomery was the father of 11 children, seven of whom are still living. They are J. P. Montgomery, Edmond; Pete Montgomery, Tulsa; Mrs. Laura Mixon, Lawton; Mrs. Earl Hardy, Mrs. Mattie Walters, Clyde Montgomery and Claude Montgomery, all of Oklahoma City; 35 grandchildren, and 59 greatgrandchildren.
Montgomery after living in Altus, resided in Oklahoma City 25 years before moving to Lawton. His wife was the former Mary Van Zandt whom he married in 1884.
Rev. Guy Bellamy and Rev. M. E. Ramay officiated at the service.
