George Walter Luce, passed away in Auburn, California, on Friday, October 11, 1940, at the age of 86 years. Mr. Luce was born in Industry Maine on December 23, 1853. He came to California with his parents when he was 13 years old, and was married in the year 1885 to Levia Wright Hinman, who was the daughter of Rev. Justus Michael Hinman and Betsey Burlingame Hinman. Four daughters were born of this marriage, three of which survive. They are Mrs. Freda Loucks of Oakland, Mrs. Edwina Lutz of San Francisco, and Mrs. Alice Naomi Boyden of Lincoln, Calif. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. George Luce lived practically all of his life in and around Lincoln.

Mr. Luce followed carpentering and contracting until he was compelled by old age to give up active work. Later, he, in company with the late R.G. Allen, built a theater known as the Aerdome on the spot where Moore's Theater stands, he also built the old Burdge Hotel, recently torn down to make way for a Standard Oil Station. In his day, George Luce was a good workman, and a good and conscientious man and one of our best citizens.

NOTE: His fourth daughter, Lillian May Adams preceded him in death.

In 1920 George Luce and his partner R. G. Allen built a theater in downtown Lincoln. The Aerdome Theater opened its doors on Sunday June 06, 1920, and was operated by Mr. Luce and Mr. Allen. The theater provided high quality film viewing until the theater was sold to the owners of the Rose Theater in Roseville in October 1925.

It was mostly a labor of love and not very profitable. The admission was a nickel, and owner George Luce was known on occasion to return the nickel to children who couldn't afford to buy candy otherwise.
