Her father was Sidney Jefferson Chester. Her mother Mary C Bush. They all came from NC and moved to Texas after 1880.
Mary died and Sidney married two more times.
Mary Bell was born deaf. She never learned to talk. She never married. After her father died she came to live with my great grand father in Beaumont. Her mother died while visiting family who had moved to TN. Mary Bell went to live in the State Hospital where she died.
She lived with her father and briefly with her step mother. After her father's death, she moved in with her brother who was living in Beaumont. He had a store. It was a full house. It was the depression as well. She lived in a garage apartment in the back of the home. My father said she always dressed in black. I guess it was a hold over from the 1800's.
