Golda Humphreys Davis, 72, was born February 12, 1939 in Jasper and raised in Newton, Texas. After a long battle with cancer she passed away at her home in Newton County on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Her survivors include her husband of 54 years, Atmar W Davis, Jr.; her daughters Tama Gann, Kay Davis Haiduk and Kay's husband Geoff Haiduk; sons Thomas Norvell Davis and Karl Campbell Davis and Karl's wife, Kirsten Davis; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Diana Humphreys Harris and husband Joe Harris; and Nancy Rawls; five nephews and three nieces.

She was predeceased by her son, John W. Davis and by her parents, Curtis C. Humphreys and Willie Mae Daniels Humphreys.

Golda was a graduate of Newton High School, Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin State University. She taught in the public schools of Texas for over forty years and loved her students second only to her family.

Her life was filled with family, friends and her students. As clearly demonstrated by her attitude and actions in regard to others, her faith and religion were an important part of her life. Golda relished reading, enjoyed music, and loved to travel with her family and friends. Archeology, history, and English literature remained of great interest and enjoyment to Golda throughout her life.

A memorial service celebrating Golda's life will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011; and visitation with family and friends will follow immediately at a nearby site to be announced at the conclusion of the service.

Her faith and religion were major parts of her life demonstrated by her love, kindness, and respect for those crossing her path throughout her life. One had to really work at loosing her respect, and it was probably impossible to loose her love and the hope involved in that attitude toward others.
