Ragnhilda "Hilda" B. Baker was born at Perley, MN in February 1888 of parents John G. Baker and Marren Johanne Nilsen Rude Baker.

She had two sisters and two brothers as follows: Nels Gerhard 10 Jan 1891-4 Jul 1966 (Martha Elizabeth Bauer 17 Sep 1891-15 Mar 1958), Alex 9 Mar 1892-3 Aug 1964 (Lucy May Mell 6 Feb 1903-25 May 1990), Minnie Josefina 2 Dec 1895-22 Jan 1969 (Christian T. Hovden 31 May 1877-27 Nov 1947) and Cora Johanne 17 Dec 1898-1 Jul 1977 (Wilmore Herman "Bill" Lind 21 Aug 1899-7 Apr 1977, divorced, Clarence E. Olson.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethania Lutheran Church November 8, 1903. She attended local rural schools.

Hilda married Louis J. Smith. He was born around 1882 in Ohio. His father was born in Germany and his mother in Ohio. Louis was a poultry farmer. They lived in Reine Township of Roseau County, MN for most of their lives. Louis passed away in 1947, and is buried in Roseau County, MN. Note that on most legal documentation, including census records, his name is spelled Louis. However, on Hilda's death certificate and on his headstone, his name is spelled Lewis.

Hilda was a farm wife and in later years was an interior decorator for private homes. They had no children together.

Hilda passed away 11 Oct 1938 at Moorhead, Clay, MN of cancer. Funeral services for her were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church rural Perley, Friday, Oct. 14, 1938. Pastor Thomas Anderson officiated. Pall bearers were Warren Hovden, Eugene Hovden, Emery Rude, Kenneth Frater, Delos Frater and Erwin Rude.
