Michel (also known as "Mike") was born in Fort Worth, TX., U.S.A. His parents had immigrated prior from Syria (Lebanon). He was the 7th born out of 8 children. His parents lived in the USA for several years before returning back to Lebanon when he was just a child. As he grew, he worked in his father's garage known as the "Star" in Beirut learning the trade of engine repair. He later went on to learn a great deal about engineering though he never officially obtained a higher education. He was a self made man/a self starter in all respects. He went on to learn a great deal in other trades such as carpentry, plumbing and construction. He married Lily Nassar in January 1947. They had 3 children together. Michel worked for many years as a supervisor in the power plant at the American University in Beirut. One of his accomplishments was the repair of the over 100 year old clock in the clock tower on their campus. While he had no training in clock repair, he was able to rebuild the mechanism and restore it back to working order. After he left the university, he went on to work as a plant supervisor for an air conditioning plant known as Lairco. Despite the personal risk of traveling between parts of the city during the civil war, Mike faithfully ran the company throughout the fighting. He retired from Lairco in 1983 to reside full time in California. He had previously moved his family to the U.S.A. in 1976. There he filled his time with home improvement projects and car repair. He was an energetic, hardworking and loving father. He was the absolute authoritarian and unquestioned decision maker in the household.
