US Representative. During the Civil War, Stewart was a lieutenant and captain in the Thirteenth Georgia Regiment. After the war, he was a member of the Georgia State house of representatives (1865-1867). In 1875-1876, he was the mayor of Griffin, Georgia. He was elected to the US House of Representatives from Georgia, serving from 1887 to 1891.
