Higbee News (Higbee, Randolph Co., MO), February 22, 1901 (Kathy Bowlin online transcript):
"RENICK ITEMS - Sim Gashwiler, who resided near this place some thirty or forty years ago, but for the last eight or ten years a resident of Carthage, Mo., died at Asheville, N.C., on the 6th inst., where he had gone for his health. His remains were brought to St. Louis where the funeral services were held. He had quite a number of relatives in this vicinity. Watts, Gaston and Miss Eva Littrell of this place and Joe Crews of Moberly attended the services, all being near relatives of the deceased."

Note: His cremated remains and those of his father-in-law William Young were interred together on Oct. 23, 1902 per cemetery records. For lot description, see here.

In San Francisco, Simeon's brother John died in 1883 and his first wife Mary died in 1891. His friend and first cousin Jerry Schooling died in Nevada in 1887. Simeon's last record in California was at his step-daughter's wedding in 1892. By 1893 he was back home in Missouri.

Carthage Weekly Press, week of May 24, 1894:
   "Married.
   Mr. S. F. Gashwiler, who has been a resident of this city for the past nine months – coming here from California – was married Wednesday evening last to Miss Laura Young, of St. Louis, and has gone with his bride to Eureka Springs for the honeymoon."

Marriages:
1) Mary E. (Garvey) Hamilton, widow of Charles F. Hamilton.
2) Laura Young.
