Son of William (1831-1913) and Isabel (nee Endslow) (1835-1970) Elarton.

After his Mother died in 1870, his Father remarried and that union produced four half-siblings.

He married Emma Viola (nee Oden) (1865-1946), the Stephen Lindsey (1836-1924) and Louisa (nee Myers) (1838-1911) Oden, on January 11, 1865 in Henry County, Ohio.

They had two children:

William Hugh Hiram (1866-1985)
Harley Hubert (1889-1966)
