WHO IS HIS FATHER?
There are numerous assumptions, but the only source I have found is in the attached photo) that lists his parents as Jacob Hinkle and Anna Kesner, as shown in the publication "The Ratliff and Ratcliff Families of Hardy County, West Virginia" compiled by Wilma Jordan Ratliff, page 356.
Another name I have seen listed is Michael Hinkle (m. Rebecca Mongold 1858), but again, no source. I also have attributed the name of Michael Hinkle's son to be William HENRY Hinkle (1863-1944) m. Jemima Sites 1890. The initials are the same and the birth/death dates are close, and I believe they are being confused. (TLS; 10/9/22)
Feb 2023 NOTE: there have been recent debates on this in our Facebook group (Descendants of John Justus Henckel, a WV Pioneer). The end result at this time is at least finding out who his mother is for sure!

W. H. Hinkle Dies In Pennsylvania-
William Henry Hinkle, an aged native of the Milam section, died last Thursday (February 23) at the home of a daughter, Mrs. G. W. Alexander, in Fairfield, Pa., and the remains were brought back Friday by the Brown Funeral service for interment in the home cemetery.
Mr. Hinkle, who was born April 28, 1861, would have been 89 years old his next birthday. Last spring he went from Kline to Pennsylvania to live with his daughter, and succumbed to the informities of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, who was Miss Etta Ratliff.
Besides the daughter, Mrs. Ola V. Alexander, he leaves two other daughters and seven sons:
Mrs. Marzell H. Whitacre and Mrs. Dellie F. Mongold, both in Ohio;
Perry W. Hinkle, Raymond E. Hinkle and Hobart G. Hinkle, all of Kline,
James R. Hinkle, of Peru, OH
Harley B. Hinkle, of Leesburg, VA.,
Homer E. Hinkle, of Timberville, VA., and
Elmer S., of Piqua, OH.
One half-brother, Charlie Smith, of Mozer, also survives, together with 50 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Three children are dead:
Ollie Z.,
Tishey L., and
Bessie O.
Rev. Luther Dove officiated at the last rites, which were held at his former home at Kline on Sunday morning.
