Son of the late James Meredith and Emily Alice Kennedy and a retired textile employee. Member of the Cliffside Baptist Church and Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460. Husband of Evie Frances "Fannie" Scruggs Padgett. Survivors included: two sons; one sister, Mrs. Dexter Hamrick, of Mooresboro, NC; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was 88 years of age at demise and interment was in the Floyd's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
