She was born in Johnstown to Willie and Teacy Mitchum Stringfield.
She was preceded in death by a brother Ed Stringfield and sisters Laura S. Barkley, Frances S. Williard, and Mena S. Holland.
Survivors include her nephew and caregiver William (Billy Joe) Barkley who was born on her birthday and a great nephew Mark Barkley, co-caregiver, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Aunt Jo was a 1939 graduate of Langley-Bath High School. Her fondest memories were her college days at the Textile Institute now known as Spartanburg Methodist College. She graduated in 1942 receiving honors in math as the only student to earn all A's in math. She taught at Omega Elementary School in South Georgia but worked 44 years in the Bath Mill office as the cost accountant. After retiring, she volunteered at Jefferson Elementary School.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2pm at Bath United Methodist Church with Pastor Wade Everett officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bath.
