Mr. Ash was born in Bedford, Ind., in 1911, and moved with his family to Rock Island when he was seven years old. He married Margaret Smessaert in 1937. She passed away in 1961.
Mr. Ash worked for many years at the Orange Crush Bottling Co. in Rock Island, and for 32 years as a machine operator at the Rock Island Farmall Works, retiring in 1972.
In his younger years his hobbies were fishing, tinkering with radios and televisions and playing the piano. He enjoyed dances at the Col Ballroom and loved music his whole life.
His children are Dennis (Jo Anne) Ash of The Villages, Fla., Dean (Mary) Ash of Orion and Teresa Ash of Rock Island. He had seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or local church food pantries.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and one sister.
