On October 25, 1874 William was united in marriage to Elizabeth Silbaugh in Vernon County, Wisconsin. She was born in 1854 in Ohio, daughter of Abner Silbaugh and Mary J. Adams. She died January 1, 1916, probably in Sparta, Wisconsin, aged about 62 yeas, and was buried there in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elizabeth Silbaugh was the daughter of Isaac Silbaugh (1816-1865) and Sarah A Chaney (1822-1902). This is born out in census records and marriage records. William Wakeman had a first wife, Sarah Ellen Appleman who died in 1873 and is buried in Vernon Co, WI. By his first wife he had two children: William Curtis Wakeman and Mary Ellen Wakeman. By his second wife he had at least four more children: Ida, Letitia, Josephine and Chester. He may have had another daughter who died young of diptheria.
