Full name: Mary Francis Taylor Cline Burrows. Mary Francis was born the oldest of 7 children of Moses William Taylor(1831-1902) and wife Saline (Blanton) Taylor(1832-1923). On 30 Dec 1874 in Jefferson County, Kansas, Mary Francis married Joseph Augustus 'Gus' Cline Jr born 1848 in Shelby County, Kentucky. To this union were born six children: Mary Mildred 'Mamie' Cline(1876-1944) married Oliver States & Edward Herrin; Anna S Cline(1878-1882); 'Turah' Elizabeth Jane Cline(1880-1955) married Charles Henry Brewer; Irena Francis Cline(1881-1981) married Carl Christopher Wehling; Winfield Jacob Cline(1883-1958) married Emma Grace Warner; David Harley Cline(1886-1961) married Martha May Blakely. These six children were born in Kansas. Gus, a school master, died in 1888 near Kensington, Smith County, Kansas, leaving widow Mary Francis with five living children between the ages of 7 and 17 to support. On 16 Sep 1893 Mary Francis made the run for land in the Cherokee Strip of Oklahoma riding side-saddle on a spirited sorrel mare. She staked her claim with a cloth United States flag on land a few miles north of Old Sheridan. The next morning she went to Hennessey to register the claim which was next to an "old bachelor", Abner Vine Burrows. Probably by necessity of needing a man in the wilderness they were married in 1895, but they made a long, happy marriage partnership. From this second marriage there were two children: Grace Maude Burrows(1895-1963) married Russell Baker; Lyda Pearl 'Little Pearlie' Burrows(1898-1907) died of ruptured appendix. These two daughters were born near Hennessey, OK. In later life, Mary Francis and Abner Burrows spent some time farming north of Gage, Ellis County, Oklahoma next to son Winfield Jacob Cline and retired from farming to move to Enid. Both are buried in Lyon Valley Cemetery.
(NOTE: the location of the grave of first husband, Joseph Augustus Cline, has not been found so far somewhere "9 miles north of Kensington, Kansas".)
(NOTE: Much of this information came from Mary Francis's daughter, Irena Cline Wehling, who gave several papers to Winnie Cline's daughter, Freeda Cline Taylor, my mother.)
