Walter "Dean" Kays 73, of Mooresville, passed away on October 26, 2010. He was born on November 4, 1936, in Indianapolis, to the late Harry Allen and Bonnie Ethel (Smoot) Kays. As a former Fire Chief and longtime public servant, Dean was asked to serve as the Mooresville Police Commissioner. In addition, he worked as a shipping clerk at Link-Belt for 42 years, retiring in 1997.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Barrier.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Sue" (Gurley) Kays, to whom he was united in marriage on June 16, 1956; son, Pat (Cindy) Kays of Brownsburg; daughters, Cindy Brant of Mooresville, Julie Kays of Mooresville; brothers, James, Donald, and Bill Kays, all of Mooresville; sisters, Sue Link of Plainfield, Linda Kays of Plainfield; grandchildren, Katie Brant, Lauren Kays, and Sarah Kays.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010, in the Carlisle and Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2010.
