Mrs. Hulda T. Hester who was generally known as Mrs. Drew died last Thursday [24 Apr 1884] at the ripe old age of eighty-seven. The old lady had lived a useful life up to within ten years of her death at which time old age and a skin disease, which was the immediate cause of her death, she was made an invalid. Sixty years ago when there were few physicians in this section Mrs. Drew took up the study of obstetrics and made considerable reputation as a mid-wife. It is said of her that she never lost a patient during her entire practice covering about fifty years. The Grand jury at the last term of the Court ordered that Mrs. Drew be paid five dollars per month from the public fund.
