Anchorage resident Adolph "Pop" Hoepfner, 84, died Feb. 10, 1995, at home.
Services were held at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church with burial at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. Hoepfner was born July 9, 1910, in Windthorst, Texas.
He served in the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals before his honorable discharge in 1945.
He was an honorary past Governor of Moose Lodge #1534 and lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He had lived in Anchorage for 35 years.
He and his wife were honored many times for their volunteer work for various local organizations. They served as Catholic lay missionaries at Copper Valley School from 1960 to 1963.
His family said: "Pop spent countless enjoyable hours at the Anchorage Senior Center passing the time with his buddies playing cribbage, pinochle and pool. He will be lovingly remembered for his keen sense of humor and his generous nature."
He is survived by his wife, Ruby of Anchorage; sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Julie of Centerville, Utah, and Jim of Anchorage; grandchildren, Stephanie and Sonja of Anchorage, Sabrina Benner, and her husband, Brian, of Washington, Ind., James of Orleans, Ind., Lisa England and her husband, Chuck, of Killeen, Texas; great-grandsons, Daniel and James Goodwin of Alabama, Justin Benner of Washington, Ind.; sister, Lydia Richardson of Texarkana, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hospice of Anchorage, 3605 Arctic Blvd., Anchorage 99503.
