RUN DOWN BY BICYCLIST
Laurence Cracroft Dies of Injuries Received in Collision

Laurence G. Cracroft of No. 12 Twelfth East Street (Salt Lake City, Utah) was knocked down and fatally inured by a cyclist on Main street, near Second South, at 1'oclock yesterday afternoon. Without waiting to see how serious were the injuries of his victim, the youth whose speeding caused the fatal accident remounted his bicycle and rode rapidly away.

At the time of the accident Cracroft was walking diagonally across the street in front of the Royal Café. A young man riding a wheel came rapidly down the street and ran into the pedestrian. The force of the impact was so great that Cracroft was lifted from his feet and hurled violently against the pavement, his head striking the asphalt. The rider was thrown from his wheel by the collision, but was unhurt. A crowd of spectators gathered quickly around the injured man, but the youth got up and got on his wheel and rode away before any one could learn who he was.

Patrolman H. D. Lyon, who was attracted by the crowd, carried young Cracroft to the sidewalk and then sent for the patrol wagon. He was taken to the emergency hospital at the police station. Police Surgeon Samuel G. Paul attended young Cracroft and in half an hour he regained consciousness. It was found that his skull had been fractured and that there was little hope for his recovery.

Later in the afternoon Cracroft was removed to the Latter-day Saints' hospital, where he was attended by Dr. W. F. Beer, the family physician. There he gradually grew weaker until his death, which occurred at 2:10 o'clock this morning.

Laurence G. Cracroft was 18 years old. He was a stenographer for the Utah Gas & Coke company. George W. Cracroft, the painter, is the father of the unfortunate boy. A particularly sad feature of the case is that the death of Laurence Cracroft is the second tragedy in the Cracroft family within two weeks. His cousin, Lorenzo Cracroft (1883-1908), committed suicide last week by shooting.
