Orren Riley Coverdell was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 25, 1841 and passed away in Kalispell on May 20, 1942 at the age of 100 years. While still very young, he moved with his parents, first to Warren County, Iowa and then to Worth County, Missouri, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Alice Wooten of Allendale, Missouri, and to this union were born five sons and one daughter. In 1901, Mr. and Mrs. Coverdell, with their family moved to the Flathead where Mrs. Coverdell passed away in 1919 and one son William in 1930.
Surviving are four sons: Lorren C. of Eugene, Oregon; Irvin S. of Toledo, Washington; Leo O. of Bigfork, Montana; Ottman R. of Polson, Montana and his daughter, Mrs. Maude Johnson of Polson, Montana. There are also 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Coverdell was a devoted member of the Christian Science Church.
