Norman P. Smith, 72, of Maple St., Gettysburg, died Saturday, Dec. 21,[1996] at Gettysburg Hospital.

Born March 26,1924 in Adams County, he was the son of the late Harry and Regina Orndorff Smith. He is survived by his wife, Doris L. Golden Smith. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret M. McKnight Smith.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Bonneauville. He was also a member of Catholic War Veterans,Catholic War Veterans Home Association and Lions,all of Bonneauville.

A World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy,he was retired from Naval Ordinance Laboratory, Washington,D.C.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons,; three daughters,; four stepsons,;two stepdaughters,;11 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters,.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday,Dec. 24, meeting at 8:15 a.m. at Hicks Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown,to go to a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church,with his pastor, the Rev. Paul M. Miller, officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
