Avilla - Louise Velma Schuman, age 77, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, where she had lived since October 25, 2011.

She was born on October 26, 1934 in Green Township, Indiana and was the daughter of Howard and Loretta (Pfleidner) Anderson. She graduated from Avilla High School in 1952.

On March 21, 1954 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church she married Hal Marl Schuman. He survives in Avilla. She lived outside of Avilla for only 6 years of her life, when she and her husband lived at their Columbia City farm.

Mrs. Schuman was a homemaker for her life's work, and kept very active in her community. She was involved in 4-H, Extension Homemakers Club in Noble County, Tri-County and 4County pony pulling clubs, and book club. She made wedding cakes with her friend Ursula Ley and enjoyed making candy at Christmas time.

She spent hours feeding and bird watching, her favorties were hummingbirds and finches. She also spent alot of time reading the local news and collecting and cataloging articles on people that she knew. She had a large collection of geneology, and kept a collection of sheep figurines.

Survivng are her husband of 57 years, Hal. Children, Hal M. (Sandra) Schuman Jr. of Kendallville; John (Jaynellen) Schuman of Avilla; Jennie (Bob) Allen of Wawaka; Joy (Roger) Klinger of Convoy, Ohio; Jackie (Radley) Stanley of Montpelier, Ohio. 12 grandchildren and a great grandchild, Lily Bok. Her two sisters, Kay Pauley of Avilla and Donna (Robert) Price of Wawaka.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a grandchild, Chester Allen.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schuman will be on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. Pastor Dave Beard will officiate.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hooper-King Cemetery in Avilla.
