James died as a result of a car accident. He was the only child of Lt. General James Francis Hollingsworth, Sr. and Mrs Katherine Nichols Hollingsworth. James is buried with his mother, Katherine.
The original place of burial was in Sanger however was later changed to reinterment at Fort Sama Houston National Cemetery after his mother's death. A commemorative marker for James replaced the original marker erected for him at Sanger Cemtery, Denton Co., TX.

James died October 10, 1960, in a hospital at Gatesville, Coryell, Texas from a skull fracture sustained in an October 9, 1960 automobile accident at Fort Hood.

Funeral services for James Francis Hollingsworth II, who was killed in an automobile accident at Ft. Hood Sunday, were to be held at 10 am. today in Killeen.
His body was brought to Sanger for burial. The body was to lie in state at the Sullivan-Floyd Hamlett Funeral Home from 3:30 to 4:30 today, followed by graveside services in Sanger Cemetery*.
A native of Sanger, Hollingsworth was killed Sunday when he was teaching a friend to drive at Ft. Hood. The driver lot control of the car which crashed into a building, throwing Hollingsworth into the street.
Survivors include his parents, Col., and Mrs. James F. Hollingsworth of Ft. Hood, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Nicholson and Mrs. Jane Hollingsworth, all of Sanger.
*After his mother's death, James' remains were removed from Sanger Cemetery and reinterred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
