Funeral services for James W. Geib, owner of Hammer and Cortenhof here for 14 years, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Zaagman Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery.
Mr. Geib, 62, of 1612 Wayside Dr. SE, died of asthma and emphysema complications Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was a Grand Rapids native and graduated from Creston High School in 1932.
At age 15, Mr. Geib began working at the Hammer and Cortenhof hardware store which was owned by his uncle, Luther Cortenhof. In 1945, he was promoted to store manager and in 1962, when Mr. Cortenhof died, Mr. Geib purchased the 60-year-old store located at 1515 Lake Dr. SE.
Mr. Geib was active in the store until last April, when his illness became acute.
He was a member of the Board of Directors and past president of Allied Wholesalers, Inc., a member and past president of the Grand Valley Cinema Club and had been active as a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America Ottawa Hills branch.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; a son; one daughter; a sister, Mrs. Eugene (Alberta) Cuson, and seven grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Tuberculosis, Health and Emphysema Society.
