Mrs. Heckscher Dies at Villanova
Mrs. Gwladys Crosby Heckscher, widow of Stevens Heckscher, prominent Philadelphia attorney, died yesterday at her home, 113 Brunside rd., Villanova.
Mrs. Heckscher married Heckscher in 1917 following the death of her first husband, Mark Hopkins, of Denver, Colo.
Heckscher, who died in 1931, was a partner with Roland S. Morris, former Ambassador to Japan, in the law firm of Duane, Morris & Heckscher.
He was a member of the committee on admissions of the Philadelphia Bar and a director of the Central-Penn National Bank.
Mrs. Heckscher is survived by three sons, Mark Hopkins, of Sherborn, Mass.; Maurice Heckscher, a member of the law firm, and J. D. Richard Heckscher, of Devon; three daughters: Mrs. Bette H. Carey, wife of actor MacDonald Carey; Mrs. Joseph Harrison, Jr., and Mrs. Josiah Marvel, of Greenville, Del., and a sister, the Marquise de Polignac, wife of a French champagne producer.

Mother of Greenville Woman Dies at Home
Mrs. Gwladys Crosby Hopkins Heckscher, 73, mother of Mrs. Josiah Marvel, Jr., of Greenville, died Thursday at her home, 113 Burnside Road, Villanova. Pa.
Mrs. Heckscher was born in New York and was first married in 1905 to Mark Hopkins, grandson of the founder of Williams College.
Mrs. Marvel, widow of the former ambassador to Denmark was the former Gwladys Hopkins and was married to Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney of New York before becoming Mrs. Marvel. Mr. Marvel died last December.
Mark Hopkins died in an accident in 1914 and his widow married Stevens Heckscher, a Philadelphia lawyer, in 1917. He died in 1931.
Mrs. Heckscher was a leader In the Philadelphia Family Society and the Southern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross and took a prominent part in many Red Cross activities during World War II.
In addition to Mrs. Marvel, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Bette H. Carey, wife of the actor, MacDonald Carey, and Mrs. Joseph Harrison, Jr., of Ardmore; three sons, Mark Hopkins of Sherborne, Mass., and Maurice and J. G. Richard Heckscher of Philadelphia, and a sister, the Marquise Nina de Pollgnac of Paris.
