"Mrs. George A'Costa there last evening passed from this life one of the oldest and at one time one of the best known and most respected of the older generation of Biloxians. Mrs. A'Costa died in her eighty-sixth year, having been born on July 4, 1821, and she might be said to have outlived her time and generation. She was born in Simpson county, this state, and when a girl of some fifteen or sixteen years of age came to Biloxi where she spent the remainder of her life. Her life was a long and useful one and many of the older people here remember her well and the services which before she became too old to move about she used to render to the sick and the needy. She was member and a communicant of the Church of the Redeemer and was a good woman. Of late years, however, many of the people who had been her associates have passed away and the old lady, reduced in circumstances and living her life quietly with kind friends, was forgotten by the newer generation. About twenty-four years ago her husband died and Mrs. A'Costa, old and without means, was dependent on friends. For twenty years she has lived at the home of Mrs. L. C. Webber, and has received during all these years the best of care and comfort. She also received from the county a monthly stipend to aid in her support and the King's Daughters likewise gave some assistance. For the past two months she has been helpless and last night at seven o'clock died at the home of Mrs. Webber on East Howard avenue. The funeral will be held at four o'clock this afternoon from the Church of the Redeemer. Rev. C. B. Crawford will conduct the funeral service".
