Henry had a stroke, had open heart surgery, fought for survival for 12 long years. In February 2002 he was admitted to the hospital again. He was alert and aware of who he was and where he was. He made his own decision to stop fighting and to join family and friends in the heavenly home, meeting his Savior face to face.
Henry's funeral was planned, to be at Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Keller, Texas. However, it was winter, there was a snow and ice storm the day of the planned service, so the service was canceled. There had been a visitation and goodbye gathering at the funeral home the previous evening so the decision was made to not reschedule the service. Henry was laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.

The little boy, Gerald, lived only about 2.5 weeks. The family lived in Merkel, Texas, and on March 13, 1941 a terrible tragedy occurred. Henry was gone to work; the house exploded and burned, killing Essie and the two little girls, Elma Josephine and Shirley Ann.
Henry married Norma Lucile (Lou) Wright 2 months later, on May 31, 1941. Although they divorced 8/20/1970, the couple remarried in August of 1972. Together Henry and Lucile had three children, Joseph Marvin, Gerald David, and Dorthy Lucile. Henry Kilgore was a Baptist preacher, Lucile was a church pianist. Their family life, church life, and social life were all one and the same. Although later separated again in 1988, they loved one another until they died. But Daddy loved women, and one was never enough (married 6 times). Although Daddy married a couple of times after divorcing Mother the second time, he continued to contact Mother, often by written notes. They had planned to reunite but Daddy had the big stroke before he could untangle himself from the last "marriage" he was in, thus saving Mother about 12 years of being his caretaker.
In addition to being a Baptist preacher, Henry held other jobs. He was a machinist at Consolidated (became General Dynamics, then Lockheed) for a while, drove a taxi, drove a delivery truck for Meachem's Dept. Store, worked for Murdock Machine, and retired from Harris Intertype Corporation.
