Marcella Simonsen, the daughter of H. Lloyd and Lorena (Stolley) Whitney, was born on October 28, 1930 in David City, Nebraska. She passed away on October 27, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 11 months, 29 days.

Marcella was one of 3 children. She attended Superior Public Schools graduating from Superior High School in 1947. She was baptized on June 19, 1939 and confirmed on November 22, 1944 both at Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to Leon Allen Simonsen on March 26, 1950 at Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior. This union was blessed with 3 children.

She was a 61 year member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and Bethany Church Women. Her service to the church included teaching Sunday school, quilt making, Altar guild, and the Cradle Roll. She enjoyed working with flowers, taking care of the farm cats, attending athletic events and loving her grandchildren.

Due to her health she entered the Good Samaritan Society, Superior on August 30, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold "Shrimp" Whitney, and half-sister Lorraine Meier.

She is survived by her husband, Leon of Superior; daughter Pam Acker and husband Jim of Cozad, Nebraska and sons Phil and special friend Gloria Nobles of Superior, Nebraska and Jon and wife Michelle of Columbia, Missouri; 5 grandchildren Eric Acker and wife Emily, Kim Acker, Kristy Acker, Nick Simonsen, and Carter Simonsen and one great-grandchild Kolton Palm; sister Delores Bixby and husband Kent, and sister-in-law Dixie Whitney and brother-in-law Hubert Simonsen all of Superior, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
