On December 4, 1937, California Highway Patrol Sergeant Richard H. Trembath was killed in a traffic collision while riding his departmental motorcycle.


Sergeant Trembath was returning to his home in Berkeley from the Academy in Sacramento, when his motorcycle collided head-on with an automobile near the Carquinez Bridge. Sergeant Trembath was killed on what was to have been his last day as a motorcycle officer. He had just been promoted to sergeant and was to have been transferred to patrol car duty the next day.


Sergeant Trembath was 34 years old.
