Llewellyn Thomas

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Eugene for Llewellyn C. Thomas of Eugene, who died Oct. 26 of age-related causes. He was 87. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

He was born Nov. 5, 1913, in Porto Alegre, Brazil to William "Merrick" and Sara Cruikshank Thomas. He married Hilah Bryan on Aug. 12, 1939, in Charlottesville, Va. She died March 14, 2009.

He graduated from Episcopal High School in 1931, from Princeton University in 1935 and from the University of Virgina Law School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rooks during World War II, from 1944 to 1946. He worked as a lawyer for a Washington, D.C., law firm before starting his own practice in Maryland, specializing in trusts and estates.

Survivors include three daughters, Hilah Thomas of New York City, Elizabeth Mayer of Berkeley, Calif., and Ellen Thomas of Eugene; a son, Merrick of Denver; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A grandson, Colin O'Fallon, died July 10, 1986.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Va. Remembrances to Cascade Manor Foundation or St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
