Mrs. Lela G. Christy, 94, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla. She was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Stokes County to D. Wilkerson and Lilla Covington Gordon. Mrs. Christy graduated from East Carolina Teacher's College and retired from the Winston-Salem school system at Oak Summit Elementary School. She was active in the Alma Nunn Sunday School Class at Ardmore United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was also a volunteer at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Survivors include two sons, William Rogers "Bill" Christy Jr. and wife, Marsha, of Blacksburg, Va., and Thomas Gordon Christy of Lakeland, Fla. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by Dr. John H. Christy. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
