Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge (1860-1932) was the first chairman of the New York and New Jersey Port Authority from 1921 through 1924 (b. March 8, 1860; Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA - d. November 10, 1932; 950 Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA)

Eugene was born in 1860 to Alexander Ewing Outerbridge (1816-1900) and Laura Catherine Harvey (1818-1867).

March 8, 1860 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Albert Albany Outerbridge (c1841-?); Joseph Outerbridge (c1842-?); August Emelio Outerbridge (1845-?); Catherine Tucker Outerbridge (1846-?); Harriett Harvey Outerbridge (1851-?); Alexander Ewing Outerbridge II (1850-?); Mary Ewing Outerbridge (1855-1886) who imported the game of tennis from Bermuda to the United States via Staten Island, New York; Laura Catherine Outerbridge (c1856-?); and Adolph John Harvey Outerbridge (1858-?).

Marriage:
Eugene married Ethel X in 1892 and they had two children: Ethel Outerbridge (1895-?); and Kenneth B. Outerbridge (1904-1990).

Staten Island:
In 1900 Eugene and Ethel were living on Staten Island and in 1909 he incorporated the Agasote Milling Company and built a manufacturing plant in Trenton Junction, New Jersey. Agasote was a fiberboard made of recycled cellulose. In 1920 they were living at 51 East 80th Street in Manhattan.

Port Authority:
Eugene worked as a shipping merchant until 1921 when he became the first chairman of the New York and New Jersey Port Authority till his death in 1924. The Outerbridge Crossing which connects Perth Amboy, New Jersey to Staten Island, New York is named for him. The bridge opened in 1928.

Death:
November 10, 1932 at 950 Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, New York.

New York Times on November 10, 1932: "E. H. Outerbridge, Port Expert, Dies. Head Of Export And Import Firm And Ex-Chairman Of Port Of New York Authority. Aided Major Harbor. Comprehensive Development Started in His Term Of Office twice. Chamber Of Commerce Head."

Brooklyn Daily Eagle: "Notables Attend E. H. Outerbridge Funeral Service. Bishop Manning Conducts Rites for Ex-Chairman of N. Y. Port Authority. Notables from civic and official circles yesterday attended funeral services for Eugene H. Outerbridge, former chairman of the New York Port Authority and former president of the New York State Chamber of Commerce, who died Thursday. The services were held in St. James' Episcopal Church, Madison Ave and 71st St. Manhattan, and Bishop William T. Manning officiated. All the near relatives accompanied the body to the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, where burial took place. They were the widow, Mrs. Ethel Boyd Outerbridge, a son, Kenneth Boyd Outerbridge, and a brother and sister, Sir Joseph Outerbridge of Bermuda and Miss Laura C. Outerbridge of Philadelphia."
