Frank was the son of Charles J Covillaud and Mary Murphy Covillaud; His mother Mary was a member of the historical Donner party that survived the dangerous trip across the Sierras. Frank was only six years old when his parents both died a few months apart from each other in 1867, he was the youngest son of their five Covillaud children. The 1870 Oregon, Wasco County census shows Frank living with his aunt Harriet and Uncle Michael Nye. Mary Ellen, the oldest child of Mary and Charles Covillaud, married George Waldron in the early 1870's and moved to Oregon, Charles Julian Jr attended college and was a law clerk for his mothers brother, William G Murphy until Charles opened his own office in the city of Marysville once he became a practicing attorney. Frank's brother William, became a Druggist in the Los Angeles area and that is where the US City Directories shows Frank living in the early 1900's, listed as an engineer and living with his brother William. Frank died in Napa, and his remains were returned to Marysville to be buried in his Aunts, Harriet Murphy Nye, plot. Her remains were returned from Oregon to Marysville some time after her death
