Verne J. Brashar, 100, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.
Verne was born Nov. 19, 1905, in Galva, son of Francis E. and Rachel J. Brashar. He married Edith N. Gibson July 30, 1937, in Davenport. She died June 16, 1982.
Verne moved to the Quad-Cities at an early age. He worked at various jobs during his life in the Quad-Cities and retired from Williams & White several years ago. He was a member of the Salvation Army most of his life.
Verne never knew a stranger and made friends quickly. He enjoyed his family and friends very much and liked to visit. He also liked to cut up, act silly and joke a lot. He loved to give and was always helping and giving away something to someone in need and not expecting anything in return. He also appreciated the kind deeds shown to him by others.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth M. Pearce and her husband, Ralph, Longmont, Colo.; three granddaughters, Debbie Bryan, Melissa Hendren and Mandy Smith and husband, Darren; two great-grandsons, Cody (Meagan) Bryan and Chad Bryan; one great-granddaughter, Taylin Smith; one great-great-grandson, Jace Bryan. In addition to his parents and wife, Verne was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Iona P. Krause on May 30, 2004, and his oldest sister, Anna Knoche on July 23, 2005.
Verne will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
