Jesse C. Berry, 51, of 2408 N. 17th St., Terre Haute, died at the Union Hospital there Sunday at 6:10 a.m. following a 10 day illness.

Born January 2, 1890 in Clinton, he moved to Terre Haute 22 years ago when he worked in the Big Four railroad yards. He was a World War veteran and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Elva Berry; 2 sons, Robert and Jesse George Berry, both at home; sister, Mrs. Mary Lane of Clinton; a brother, Charles of Clinton, one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home and will be returned to the Terre Haute residence Tuesday. Short services will be held at the residence at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Lane at 957 South Third Street here in Clinton. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

11 15 1918: JESSE BERRY WOUNDED IN BOTH SHOULDERS
Jesse Berry, former Clinton boy, raised by his sister and brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. George L. Brown, of Clinton, was wounded in both shoulders while in action in France, October 12, and was laid up in a base hospital, according to a letter just received by the Browns. He did not give much detail, saying he expected to be out in a month.

Mr. Berry, who worked much of the time at the Riverside mill here, before he left Clinton for his health, enlisted from Montana.
