Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company A, 1st Vermont Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on October 19, 1864 at Cedar Creek, Virginia. His citation reads "With one companion, captured the flag of a Confederate regiment, three officers, and an ambulance with its mules and driver."
