THOMAS R SCHALLER--73: died early today [8-19] in Sharon General Hosp after an extended illness. He was a widely known sportsman in the area.
MrSchaller retired on 31 May 1962 as controller of the Sharon Works of National Castings Division of Midland Ross Corp after 46yrs of service. He joined the company, then National Malleable & Steel Castings Co as a shipping department clerk in 1916 & transferred to the accounting department 2yrs later. He served as personnel manager from 1943 to 1946 when he became treasurer-controller. When he was named treasurer, he was the first man from the Sharon plant to be advanced to that post.
Prior to working National Casting Co he worked at Driggs-Seabury Co plant here, later purchased by Westinghouse Electric. He transferred to National Casting Co getting his job because he was one of the few young men who could operate a typewriter. He was 20 years old at the time. MrSchaller was former co-chairman of the Clarksville committee of the Shenango Valley Community Fund, in charge of the campaign in that community.
