Elda E. Cloat of Columbus, Texas, passed away on September 25, 2011 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Texas at the age of 97.

She was born in Nada, Texas on March 15, 1914 to Julius and Ida Ladewig and married Jack L. Cloat on October 21, 1934. Elda was a lifelong resident of Colorado County and shortly after marrying, she and Jack made their home on the farm on Cummins Creek where they raised seven children.

Elda was quite the horsewoman in her younger years and was also a wonderful cook and gardener. She loved flowers as was evident to anyone that passed by and viewed her beautiful yard, always vibrant with seasonal blooms.

Elda was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, children, Charles Cloat, Ervin Cloat, and Doris Drlik and brothers, Harry and Percy Ladewig.

She is survived by her children, Maybelle Barnett and husband Max, Aline McQueen and husband, Troy, and Linda Daley and husband, Lonny, and Roy Cloat all of Columbus, daughter-in-laws Roselyn Cloat of Frelsburg and Shirley Cloat of Douglas, Georgia and son-in-law James Drlik of Garwood; 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

After marriage, Elda and family joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, where Elda was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women and she remained an honorary member after serving until over 80 years of age.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg with graveside services following at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
