ROBERT C. ALLEN
Robert C. "Bob" Allen, 83, of Russell, Iowa was born August 5, 1925 near Chariton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Floy (Young) Allen. He passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.
Bob attended Fairview rural school and Chariton High School. He married Martha Brown May 23, 1948 at the May Community Church. They had no children but were blessed with special nieces and nephews. Uncle Bob was loved by them all. They remember the fun they had with him and his happy laugh.
They moved to a farm south of Russell. His main love of life was farming. His cattle and sheep were always given tender care. Bob and his brother-in-law, Albert farmed together for forty years. They had a special affection for each other.
Bob enjoyed the Iowa State Fair. They camped out in the same spot for twenty years. In his later years, he zipped around the fair grounds on his scooter.
Bob turned his heart to Jesus at a young age. He was a faithful member of the Center Community Church. Although it was a small church it was blessed with a loving, caring church family.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Fred, Keith and Jack. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha of Russell; his sister, Frances Nichols of Longmont, CO.; his special brother-in-law, Albert Brown; his special nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa with Bill Brown officiating. Interment was held in the Chariton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Johnson, Paul, Don, Danny, Aaron and Monte Brown and Stephen Harvey. Honorary bearers were Steve Allen, Don Holmes, Rick Mitteness, Ivan McCollough, Ron Wallace, Bill Morse, Boyd and Edgar Enterline.
