Lyle Edminster Rice, age 82, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Monday, October 8, 1990 at Dixie Medical Center of cancer.

He was born September 24, 1908 in New London, Wisconsin, to George A. and Marnie Glenn Edminster Rice. He married Evelyn Erna Dutcher, August 17, 1934 in the Salt LaKE LDS Temple. She preceded him in death October 21, 1965. He married Leatrice ''Tricia'' Gregory Newey, August 11, 1978 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; marriage solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple, April 10, 1980. Lyle spent his early years in Wisconsin until 1948, when he came to Utah to live. He has lived in Ogden, Murray, West Jordan and St. George, Utah. Graduated from Rhinelander High School, Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1927. By trade he was a Mill Wright and a carpenter. An active member of the LDS Church, he devoted much of his time to Church callings. He shared his talents and earthly goods with many along the way, doing good whenever he saw a need. He was a devoted husband and friend.

Surviving family members include his wife, Leatrice ''Tricia'', St. George, Utah; three sons, one daughter, Vernon Perry Rice, Sandy, Utah; Gerald Vance Rice, Salt Lake City, Utah; Orval Allen Rice, California; Sharlene Judy DeNiro, Florida; also eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-children, Ellen Lee Newey Christiensen, Salt Lake City, Utah; Dale A. Newey, San Francisco, California, Howard R. Newey, Salt Lake City; two brothers, two sisters, Clifford Orval Rice, Washington, Utah; Lloyd Elton Oakley, Salt Lake City; Lelah (Rice) Brown, Leora M. McGuire, both St. George; sister, Elsie Blamberg and one grandson, Lyle Hilliard Rice preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 1990 at 11 a.m. at the Dixie Downs LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, in St. George, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 12, 1990 11 a.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Rd., Salt Lake City, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
