St. Cloud Daily Times, Sat. Dec. 8, 1923. DEATH CLAIMS MRS. EVA GANS STEARNS PIONEER. Prominent Woman Was 77 Years Old; a Resident Here Since 1863. 12 CHILDREN SURVIVE. Funeral Probably Will Be Held Tuesday Morning From Cathedral. Mrs. Eva Gans, prominent Stearns county pioneer, and widow of Mathias Gans, died this morning at her home, 606 2 St. S, at 8:45 o'clock. She was 77 years of age and had been an invalid for over five years. For the past three months she was confined to her bed. Her death was due to complications. Mrs. Gans has been a prominent churchwoman for many years and was one of the first members of the Christian Mothers organization of this city. She was noted for her religious fervor and piety. Surviving are her twelve children, Joseph Gans of Uniontown WA, Michael Gans of Perham, Nestor A. Gans of Fargo ND, Norbert A. Gans of Gilbert MN, Mrs. Mary Merton, of Minneapolis, Dr. E.M. Gans of Judith Gap MT, Father Roger, OFMCap, of Milwaukee WI, John and Hubert Gans, Mrs. E.V. Treischel, Mrs. J.A. Schroeder and Miss Anna Gans of this city. She was also the mother of the late illustrious rector of the Holy Angel's Cathedral, Rev. Dr. Leo Gans, J.C.D. One sister, Mrs. Magdalen Brick of Winnipeg, Canada, was with her at death. Mrs. Gans was born in Germany in 1846. She was married to Mathias Gans who had settled in St. Cloud in 1857, at St. Joseph on June 24, 1863. For many years after their marriage they resided in St. Cloud after which Mr. Gans purchased a farm near the city where they lived for almost 23 years. They again became residents of St. Cloud in 1905 following Mr. Gans retirement from farming. Mr. Gans died in 1906. Funeral arrangements have not been completed and are pending until word is received from relatives. Services will probably be held at the Cathedral Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock with interment beside her husband in Calvary cemetery.
