Minnie was born at home (with the assistance of Aunt Martha and her mother Mrs. Magginetti Sr) She grew up on remote ranch in San Benito Township, the second of six surviving children of her parents, both Italian-Swiss immigrants. Her father immigrated with his brother Rafael Maggini in the 1870's and together with cousins of the same name and place of Swiss origin founded a very large Maggini presence in San Benito County as farmers and ranchers. Her father died in a buggy accident in 1906 and her mother moved to Hollister and remarried twice again.

Minnie along with her sister Nell married ranchers. Sister Josie married a tailor, Midge became a Registered Nurse, Flo married but died at age 23. Her brother Charles George Maggini became a top hand cowpoke working on big western ranches and a very famous pro-rodeo star. memorialized in the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame.
