Gordon W. Heavner Sr., 79, of Columbus died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Heavner retired in 1982 from Brown & Root in Houston, Texas, where he had been a nuclear engineer for 10 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church and Columbus Order of the Eastern Star and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Alto, Texas.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Steve Russell officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday by members of St. John's Masonic Lodge. Burial will be at Lynches Chapel Cemetery in Alto.

Memorials may be made to he Alzheimer's Association.

Born in Berwick, Pa., Nov. 26, 1924, Mr. Heavner was the son of George A. and Mary S. Sult Heavner. He married Barbra M. Scott Oct. 17, 1945, at Los Angeles.

Survivors include his wife; sons, George A. Heavner of Malvern, Pa., Gregory S. and Gilbert S. Heavner, both of Columbus, and Gordon W. Heavner Jr.; grandchildren, Nick Heavner of Jeffersonville, Tabbi Molitoris of Connecticut, Karyn Heavner of New York and Laura Donica and Bridgett Heavner, both of Muncie; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
