Mr. Tansil was an Army sergeant in World War I, with 18 months' duty in France. Born in Sharon, Tennessee, he moved to Memphis twenty years ago. After operating several Gulf Service stations for ten years in Memphis, he moved to Greenfield, Tennessee. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Greenfield Church of Christ.
