Robert Sperry Epperson, age 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was reunited with our Heavenly Father on October 19, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 1, 1932 to Emery G. and Sarah (Peggy) Epperson in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School in 1949.

He later met the love of his life, Marilyn Parkin, and the two were married on April 3, 1952 in the Salt Lake temple.

He attended the University of Utah and joined the Army Reserves Band, where he served for twelve years as a drum major and 1st sergeant. He had a passion and talent for music and enjoyed playing the Saxophone and listening to Big Band.

He was an avid sports fan that rarely missed a Utah Jazz or U of U football game and was often seen proudly wearing his favorite Jazz or Ute hat. Among his favorite teams were also the Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears.

His gentle demeanor and kind heart was evident to anyone that met him. Seldom did he end a conversation without at least offering a lifesaver mint, with a smile. He will be remembered for his big smile, even bigger heart and the deep love he had for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Marilyn Epperson; son Eddy R. Epperson; daughter Debi (Jeff) Haaga; daughter Shelley (Keith) Tippie; his twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Bingham Creek Stake Center, 8539 South 2200 West, West Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City, and also on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center prior to the services.
