Galva, IL - William Lewis "Bill" Craine, 84, of Galva, Il. passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Eastview Terrace in Sullivan, IL.

Bill was born on January 1, 1927 in Continental, Ohio the son of William Thomas and Merle Jane (Kirkendall) Craine. He graduated from Wethersfield High School. He served in the Army in Germany during World War II. He married Cora Jane "Corky" Alderman on June 14, 1945 in Kewanee, Il. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2004.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Frank Craine, Gene "Harold" Craine and Keith Craine.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue (Ken) Long of Decatur, IL and Peggy (Mike) Tautkus of Neponset, IL; one son, Troy (Kathy) Craine of Lincoln, IL; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Cortright, Shannon (Liz) Long, Erik (Melissa) Tautkus, Stephanie (Chris) Grussing, Will Craine and Aidan Craine; and 10 great grandchildren.

Bill was a lifelong farmer. Even when he retired from farming, he worked for Farm King, having received the outstanding employee of the year. Bill was extremely involved with his family, as well as with other young people in the community, through the schools, church, and 4-H. Bill had served on the board of directors for the Bureau County Farm Bureau Association. He served as volunteer fire fighter in Neponset and was a member of the First Christian Church in Kewanee.

All of the above are the hard cold facts about William Craine. Bill, daddy, dad, papa was as mom put it a stubborn Manxman who loved his family above all else. He took time to climb off his tractor in the middle of spring planting (dirt and all) to attend a ten minute play his third grade daughter was in. He grinned through recitals, concerts, plays, hockey games, swim meets, baseball games and everything else his children and grandchildren were involved with. He introduced his children to the country stopping at every historical marker he found. He made room for very special nephews to escape to the farm during summers and school breaks. Bill and Corky were so accepted by the young people in their community that they chaperoned their daughters week long senior trip to Wisconsin where rumor was a girl got pregnant on the trip…Corky!! He could be summed up with the words loving, tolerant, understanding, forgiving and very proud of his family. He is now with his beloved Corky. Give mom a hug for us daddy. We love you both.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
