Occupation: Pugilist, fight referee and former boxer. Former Fight Star, Andrews, 78, Dies. Fred J. (Freddie) Andrews who fought some of the top featherweights and lightweights in the country, died Thursday at. St. Camilus Hospital at the age of 78. Death was due to hardening of the arteries. Andrews, who formerly lived at 2732 N. Frederick av., had been confined to the hospital for 17 months. Andrews started out boxing as a flyweight (105 pounds) as an amateur at the Milwaukee Athletic club and won 17 bouts in a row before turning professional in 1908. He was a close friend of Ad Wolgast and served as Wolgast's manager and business agent when he was lightweight champion. Andrews also was well known as a referee, working fights at the Univerity of Wisconsin and professional bouts in Milwaukee and other Wisconsin cities. Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Louise Fitzgerald, Mrs. Madge Kozlowski, Miss Lorraine Andrews, Mrs. Ellen Tetlzff and Mrs. Jack (Catherine) Tills, and three brothers, David T., Edward and Jack, all of milwaukee. Services will be held at 9:30 am. Saturday at Feerick funeral home, 2025 Capitol dr., Shorewood and at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catherdral. The body is at the funeral home. The Milwaukee Elks club 46 will hold a lodge of sorrow at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A parish vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
