Eva was born on Rosedale Farm near Linn, Washington County, Kansas, the sixth of eight children. Her father was a farmer.

Eva died a tragic death in a private plane crash on a trip from Forth Wayne to Chicago. The crash killed not only her but her son, daughter-in-law and also young grandson.
